The Hyatt Regency Sydney is one of my favourite Sydney wedding venues. Both of the Hyatt Regency ballrooms are modern and spacious and offer sweeping, panoramic views of Darling Harbour. The contemporary space is a blank canvas for styling your Sydney wedding ceremony or reception.

Seriously, the views over Darling Harbour are simply mesmerising! They also have shutters to cover the floor-to-ceiling windows, which can be closed to minimise glare from the late-afternoon sun streaming in.

We have photographed huge wedding receptions and intimate wedding ceremonies at the Hyatt Regency Sydney (check out a gorgeous Hindu wedding we photographed there recently).

For the groom’s entrance at a Hindu wedding, the recessed courtyard at the Hyatt Regency Sydney provides plenty of room for dancing (and a horse if the groom is entering on one). The bridal suites are spacious and on the ground floor for easy access, and the foyer area just outside the ballrooms has plenty of room for pre-reception canapes and drinks.

There’s also a private little hallway downstairs (which nobody seems to know about!) featuring a rustic brick wall running along its length. This area is perfect for some wedding photos if your wedding day is washed out (or even if it isn’t) – see the photos below.

Being a hotel wedding venue, the Hyatt Regency Sydney has plenty of staff so all your guests will be well looked after, and just across the road there is cheap city parking ($15 all day on a weekend when I wrote this article). They also have top-notch screens and projectors in their ballrooms so when we play our same-day edit films and reception slideshows for our couples, the colours are bright and punchy.

If you have your wedding at the Hyatt Regency Sydney you have the added benefit of being right by Darling Harbour, so you can have your post-wedding ceremony (or pre-reception) photos down by the water without having to walk too far. You’re also just a few minutes’ drive from The Rocks, which offers a whole range of backdrops for your photos (think cobblestone paths, brightly coloured buildings, and graffiti walls).
