I’m Jay, and I’m a wedding photographer in Sydney. My team and I have photographed over 300 weddings in and around Sydney since we started in 2008. We pride ourselves on getting to know our couples intimately so that we can capture photos that matter most to them, using our experience to guide them on their wedding planning journey, and providing a memorable, easy and enjoyable experience.

We use our experience photographing weddings from all cultural backgrounds to ensure we never miss a moment or important ritual, using a mix of natural and studio lighting to create unique images that stand out. We’ve covered all kinds of Indian weddings (Hindu, Muslim, Sikh/Punjabi, Sinhalese Buddhist, you name it), as well as Catholic church ceremonies and intimate garden civil weddings.

Our wedding photography coverage starts when you’re getting ready, all the way until dancing at your reception. There are no fixed hours – we are there to tell your whole story.

Unlike some photography studios who assign a photographer for your wedding (whom you will typically only meet on your actual wedding day), I am the lead photographer at your wedding. You also have a second dedicated photographer who captures groom preparations and secondary photos throughout the day.

We offer flexible wedding photography pricing options to suit your requirements, from $3500 including all day coverage, edited digital images and a private online gallery to share with guests. We also offer wedding photography+videography starting from $7100. Get in touch and I’d be happy to send you our detailed pricing information.

I’d love to chat to you more about how we can help create your dream wedding photographs. Get started now by booking in a time with me below for a complimentary wedding planning phone call.

5 ways to get insta-worthy pre-wedding photos

"We couldn’t be happier with our photos!"

Eliminate camera nerves with a pre-wedding shoot.

A pre-wedding shoot is a photo shoot with you and your partner, at a location of your choice. Your pre-wedding shoot typically goes for 1.5-2 hours and is a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera.

Many of our couples also choose to use their favourite photos for a photo signing book or a canvas to display at the wedding reception. A pre-wedding shoot is also a great way to get photos in a location that may otherwise not be possible on your wedding day (for example, where you proposed, or where you like to hang out).

Tell your unique love story with a hand-crafted wedding album.

Nothing comes close to the feeling of holding your wedding book in your hands, and reliving the story of your wedding with your family and friends.

I believe in the importance of a wedding album. It tells the story of the biggest day of your lives: not just who was there, but the raw emotions, beauty and rituals that make your story unique. Your wedding album becomes a family heirloom; something that you share with your children and pass on to future generations.

• Why are you guys different?

In more than 10 years of photographing over 300 weddings, we have seen weddings of all cultures (Aussie, Catholic, South Indian Hindu, North Indian Hindu, Fijian Hindu, Punjabi Sikh, Muslim, Jewish – you name it), so you can rest assured that we will not miss a moment. We are non-obtrusive on your big day – you won’t even notice we’re there. And you get your photos in 4 weeks while the excitement is high – guaranteed.

Southern Light Photography onlys accept up to 40 weddings per year, so we can bring all of our creativity and energy to your big day. This also allows to really get to you know so we can capture images that matter to you.

Our photographs are spontaneous, vibrant and natural – check out our blog for more.

• How many photographers will cover my wedding?

We have two photographers at every wedding. Typically one will go to the groom’s house before the ceremony and one will go to the bride’s to capture some natural moments and family photos at each home before leaving for the ceremony. The second photographer will stay until the end of your wedding ceremony, and the lead photographer will continue on for the location shoot and reception.

• When will my photos by ready?

Your pre-wedding photos will be ready in 2 weeks, and your wedding photos will be ready within 4 weeks of your wedding. You can access your photos via an easy-to-use password protected online gallery, which is perfect for sharing with family and friends.

• Should I have a pre-wedding shoot?

Most of my couples book an engagement session (aka pre-wedding shoot) with me. They are a fantastic way to get comfortable in front of the camera, get a hair and make-up trial, and get creative with your outfits and location choices. Here are 9 Reasons to book an engagement session.

• Do you offer wedding albums?

Absolutely. I believe that a wedding album is an essential part of your wedding story. Every couple receives a book that is unique to them; after your wedding I work with you to create a beautifully designed and custom-made wedding album (proudly made in Australia) that you will be excited to share with your family and friends. Find out more about my wedding albums.

• Do you offer wedding videography/cinematography?

Yes we do. We offer wedding videography that is natural, simple and full of emotion. I'd love to put together a combined wedding photography and videography package to suit your requirements – discover more here.

• How many photos do we receive?

While every wedding is different, you can expect to receive at least 800 images from your wedding. I can delivery your images on one of my signature USB drives, or via a digital download. I will also present your images on a private online gallery for easy sharing with your guests.

• What kind of equipment do you use, and what happens if it breaks?

My team and I use a wide range of lighting and photography equipment (Sony mirrorless bodies for you geeks out there), and bring second and third backups of everything so we can continue capturing your special moments without interruption.

• Can you help with our wedding day schedule?

Of course! I have photographed over 300 weddings so can definitely help you figure out how long you need for different parts of your wedding day. I'm here to help along your wedding journey. Check out my article on how to design your perfect wedding photography timeline.

• How do we book you?

Most couples meet with us in our studio to chat more about their wedding day plans and to go through our wedding books, canvases and other ideas. We then build a quote together which they then accept online and pay a deposit to secure their dates.

For couples who are strapped for time, they can simply pay a deposit to secure their dates, and we can meet at a later time to work out the details of their wedding photography package.

I also love to chat to our interstate and international couples via Zoom or Skype!
